The Premise
Dead Or Alive introduces the bounty board: a seamless and menuless system of accepting and turning in bounties weather they are Dead Or Alive.
The Outlaw

A new type of illager: The Outlaw is armed and dangerous, they can spawn along side base pillagers or as six special variants you may face during your career:
- Coward: Quick on his feet, keeps his distance and gives up early.
- Sharp Shooter: Long guns, long range, tight aim and hard hits.
- Dynamiter: Lobs lit dynamite at you, and drops a few sticks when he goes down.
- Silver-Tongue: When he’s hurt, he offers you money to look the other way. Take the bribe and you keep the cash, but the writ fails and your reputation suffers.
- Slippery: Throws a smoke bomb and vanishes when hit. Take too long and he rides off to a new hideout. Let him slip twice and he’s gone for good.
- Quick Draw: Always carries a revolver, and calls you out to a duel…
Road Agents:
Out on the trail, sometimes an outlaw would rather have your money than your life.
- He rides up with a whistle and a howdy, gun still holstered. Then it’s HANDS UP!
- He wants a cut of your coin (10–20%, never more than 8) and never your gear. If you’re broke, he lets you go.
- You have 3 seconds:
- Pay up: press R, or use him. He rides off with it.
- Draw: hit your Quick Draw key fast enough and he flinches, so the first shot is yours. Too slow and he fires first.
- Do nothing: he helps himself.
- Run: he opens fire.
- Pay him and he’s a marked man. His poster goes up on the next bounty board you pass, with what he took added to the reward. Put him down and you get your money back.
- A man with a name never gets robbed. Deputies wearing their star, anyone Feared or a Legend, and whoever wears Cold Eyes get a “my mistake, wrong trail.”
- It’s rare by design: at most once a day, never near a village, never mid-fight, mid-duel or right after you respawn.
The Lawman

A new villager profession: The Lawman never sleeps and fiercely protect villages and the villagers in them.
After placing a bounty board a nearby villager will take up as the new town Sheriff, Sheriffs will trade equipment to aid you in your new career such as weapons and ammunition. They also have the ability to summon deputies in combat if their health drops below %60. Players themselves ranked Sheriff or higher can use badges on villagers to deputize them. Deputies will follow you and assist you in combat, or can be assigned to guard a location.
You
After creating a bounty board to become a bounty hunter you must look at the board and take the oath to swear in, you will be assigned the first of three ranks: Deputy and be given the bounty book.
The Ranks:
Deputy: the lowest rank only able to take on varmits and low teir outlaws with little reward and recognition. %10 off Sheriff trades
Sheriff: able to hunt low and mid teir outlaws with increased rewards and stakes and gain the power to deputize villagers. %20 off Sheriff trades
Marshal: the highest rank able to pursue the most dangerous outlaws with the best rewards available. %30 off Sheriff trades
Notoriety:
Every bounty you cash in makes outlaws hear your name: Known → Feared → Legend. Your fame cools a little each day.
- Known: outlaw patrols come looking for you.
- Bounty on your head: now and then, hired guns ride out to collect it.
- Legend: plain outlaws think twice and run.
| Rank | Reputation | Bounties | Writs at once | Reward bonus |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Deputy | – | ★ | 1 | – |
| Sheriff | 150 | ★★ | 2 | +10% |
| Marshal | 500 | ★★★ | 3 | +25% |
Tools Of The Trade
The Bounty Book:
A ledger of every bounty you’ve closed, with portraits, traits, rewards and DEAD / ALIVE stamps, plus a summary page of your rank, record and notoriety. You get one when you’re sworn in. Sheriffs sell more, or you can craft one from a book, leather and a gold nugget.
Dynamite:
Hold use to light it and rear back like a trident, then let go to throw. A full wind-up throws it farthest. It tumbles, bounces, and goes off without breaking blocks. The fuse burns from the moment you light it. Hold it to cook it, but hold on too long and it goes off in your hand.
The Lasso:
Hold use to twirl the loop over your head, then let go to throw. The longer you twirl, the farther it flies (up to about 20 blocks).
- A roped mob can’t fight back. It loses its target, every hit or shot it tries is cancelled, endermen can’t teleport, and it moves at a crawl.
- Use to haul it in, sneak-use to let go, or use on a fence to tie it off.
- Hostile mobs wriggle free after a while. Animals never do.
- Wanted outlaws fight the rope (20 / 14 / 10 seconds by tier). Once they surrender, they stay tied for good and cash in at the board.
- Bosses, wardens and shulkers can’t be roped.
The Gun Belt:
A cartridge belt with a holster on the thigh. It’s drawn on your character with your real revolver sitting in the holster, and it’s dyeable.
- Press the Quick Draw key to holster the pistol in your hand, or draw it from the holster into your hand.
- The first shot off the draw flies true: half the spread and half the kick.
- Whatever you were holding goes back into your pack (or at your feet if you’re full).
The Skillet:
Cast iron and seasoned. A hit has a 25% chance to daze (40% on a full-strength swing), and a dazed foe can’t land a blow for a couple of seconds. It also makes a very satisfying bonk.
The Pot Poncho:
A wool poncho with something heavy hanging underneath. It has a 25% chance to stop a bullet cold and a 10% chance to turn a blow, with a loud CLANK. Dyeable.
The Blowgun:
A length of river cane. Hold use to draw a breath and let go to fire. It’s silent: a dart kill is only noticed by someone close and looking right at you.
- Dart: a light sting.
- Sleep Dart: staggers a mob, then knocks it out cold. A sleeping witness forgets what he saw, and a sleeping outlaw can be roped where he lies.
- Poison Dart: Poison II, but it never kills.
Spurs:
A boots trim: apply the template at a smithing table, and the rowels take on the trim material’s colour.
- Your horse runs 15% faster, and when you’re breaking a wild one, every buck counts double.
- They jingle with every step. Witnesses hear you from 8 blocks away and spot you 25% farther off. Crouch to hush them.
The Stranger’s Hat:
Earned, not bought: it’s handed to you once, when you become a Legend, and it never wears out. Quick shots steady your aim. Every follow-up shot fired soon after the last cuts your spread and kick by 22%, up to 88% on a hot streak.
Cold Eyes:
The black hat, and the Stranger’s Hat’s opposite number. It’s handed once to the most wanted man in the territory (a top-tier poster) and never wears out.
- Cold Aim: hold your gun on a target without firing for half a second and the crosshair closes in. The next shot goes exactly where you’re pointing and hits 50% harder. Firing, sprinting or taking a hit throws it off.
- Folks you stick up don’t dare run, and road agents give you a wide berth.
The Duster:
A long riding coat, open down the front, with skirts to the shin. It comes in dusty tan and is dyeable in any colour. It offers about leather-level protection.
- It hangs over your gun belt, so with no gun in your hand, lawmen have to come close to make you, and witnesses see less.
- Sold by the Fence.
The Push Dagger:
A short, broad blade on a T-handle, gripped so the blade comes out between your fingers. It’s quicker than a sword, made for impaling, with a straight-punch thrust in first person.
- Backstab: sneak up on something that isn’t after you and drive it in for ×6 damage. A kill like that is silent.
- Concealed: closed in the fist it doesn’t look like much, so the law has to come close to see you’re armed.
- It works for a stick-up, up close (within 2 blocks).

Become the Outlaw
Killing villagers, lawmen, wandering traders or village golems builds infamy. So does murdering other players, if PvP infamy is on (configurable).
- Push it far enough and you’re WANTED. The whole server hears about it, your face goes up on every bounty board, and every lawman shoots on sight.
- Other players can take your poster and hunt you down for the reward.
- Clear your name by paying the fine at a board, by getting caught, or by laying low until it blows over.
- A crime only counts if it’s witnessed and reported. Theft, rustling, brand blotting and sticking people up all add infamy.
Crime Has Witnesses:
Being an outlaw is about not getting caught. A crime only counts if somebody sees it and the law hears about it.
- Lawmen who see a crime know on the spot.
- Villagers and wandering traders who see one get a ! over their heads and run for the nearest lawman or the village bell. The crime goes on your record the moment they get there.
- Stop every witness before they reach the law and it never happened. With no law or bell nearby, word gets around on its own after a while.
- Witnesses notice anything in front of them, and anything close enough to hear. Crouching keeps you quieter.
Crimes:
murder, killing a lawman, robbing a trader, destroying the town golem, gunning down an honest man, theft, cattle rustling, brand blotting and armed robbery. The worse the crime, the more infamy it adds.
Theft:
Help yourself to the chests and barrels in a village and everything you take is marked Stolen in red. Only the Fence will buy it.
The Bandana:
A red paisley neckerchief, and it’s dyeable. Pull it up over your face and a witness has a 60% chance of not being able to name you. Use it to put it on, and sneak-use an empty hand to take it off.
The Fence:
A dealer in hot goods who keeps a covered wagon camp, well away from town.
- Hold anything stolen and he names a price for everything stolen you’re carrying. Use him again within a few seconds to shake on it.
- Bring cattle? He’ll take rustled cattle off your hands, no questions asked.
- His store: the Bandana, Forged Papers (clear 3 infamy), dynamite, the running iron, the Duster, the Push Dagger and bullets.
- He never deals with the law in sight. He carries a revolver for anyone who tries him, and outlaws leave him be.
Cattle and Brands:
Ranchers ride herd on the open range, and every cow in the herd carries their brand.
- Branding Iron: heat it in a lit campfire, then use it on an unbranded cow (a maverick). Sneak-use to pick your brand, which locks in on your first cow and is yours for good.
- Your own cattle breed back sooner, their calves carry your brand, and they drop an extra cut of beef.
- Rustling: killing, leading or roping someone else’s branded cow is a crime, and the rancher comes after you with his rifle.
- Running Iron: burns a brand out. On somebody else’s cattle that’s brand blotting.
- Ranchers buy cattle wearing your brand at a fair price, a few head a day. They also sell branding irons, leads, saddles, feed, lassos and spurs.
Sticking Up Villagers:
Look at a villager or wandering trader within 5 blocks with a gun in your hand, and a prompt appears: [R] Stick ’em up.
- His hands go up and he’s frozen to the spot. Keep him covered for 3 seconds and he pays up: a few emeralds, plus something from his trade. Farmers hand over crops, fletchers arrows, smiths iron and coal, librarians paper, and so on.
- Anything that isn’t money is stolen goods, ready for the Fence.
- Nitwits have no money at all, just string, sticks and potatoes in their pockets… and once somthing special.
- Some won’t stand for it: 30% make a run for the law once the shock wears off. Lower your gun or look away and he runs too.
- It’s armed robbery, so anybody watching runs for the law. Each villager can only be robbed once a day.
