Way of the Ninja

A Naruto power system for NeoForge 1.21.1. Cast jutsu, awaken a dojutsu, seal tailed beasts and fight the cast of the series. Everything runs on the server, so it works the same on a multiplayer server as it does in singleplayer.

What you can do

Cast jutsu from a radial menu. All the classic chakra natures are here (Fire, Water, Earth, Wind, Lightning) plus the advanced ones: Lava, Ice, Storm, Magnet, Crystal, Scorch, Boil, Explosion and Dust. There are also Taijutsu, Genjutsu, medical techniques, sealing techniques and Sage Mode. Hold the cast key to charge a technique for a stronger hit, or fire it right away. Each jutsu has a chakra cost, a cooldown and a hand-seal sequence.

Awaken a dojutsu. Sharingan, Rinnegan, Byakugan, Tenseigan and Rinne-Sharingan are real progression lines. You never hold an item for them. You use them from the radial menu like any other ability. The Sharingan grows through its tomoe stages into a Mangekyō that is unique to you, and then into the Eternal Mangekyō. You can even pass the Sharingan on to your shadow clones. The Rinnegan opens up the Six Paths abilities, and the Byakugan brings the Gentle Fist.

Become a jinchūriki. The nine tailed beasts (Shukaku, Matatabi, Isobu, Son Gokū, Kokuō, Saiken, Chōmei, Gyūki and Kurama) don’t wander around. Each one sleeps at a fixed spot tens of thousands of blocks from world spawn, in a biome that suits it, and wakes up when a player gets close. A Biju Map points you to the nearest one. You can buy it from village ninja merchants for 64 emeralds. Beat a beast, then seal it into yourself at a Four-Symbols Sealing altar. From there you climb through cloak stages until you can take a full tailed beast form. Be careful, because the Akatsuki hunt jinchūriki roughly once a week. You can turn that off with a gamerule.

The Ten-Tails is an endgame goal, not a mob you stumble on. You need a Rinnegan to summon the Gedō Statue (the Outer Path). Then you feed it all nine tailed beasts with the Nine Phantom Dragons seal, either loose beasts or ones torn out of jinchūriki. When the ninth goes in, the statue turns into the Ten-Tails. You have to beat it and bind it with the Coffin Seal. Whoever hosts it gets extra durability and flight, and the Six Paths Seal gives the carrier Sage of the Six Paths abilities.

Infinite Tsukuyomi, and the two players who can end it. Once the God Tree has grown, the Six Paths Seal carrier can cast Infinite Tsukuyomi, a world-wide genjutsu that puts every eligible player into a dream. Anyone with a Rinnegan is immune. Players can still fight back, because the Sage of Six Paths appears at the God Tree and hands out the two halves of his seal to certain players:

• Yin seal: goes to an awake Rinnegan holder.
• Yang seal: goes to someone who has been sheltered under a Rinnegan user’s Susanoo for a long stretch.

A Yin bearer and a Yang bearer have to stand near each other and cast Six Paths Release at nearly the same moment. That breaks the dream for everyone. It also ends if the caster dies, logs out or recasts it, and the seals vanish with it. This means the player doing the Tsukuyomi has to defend their tree.

Stand as Susanoo. Mangekyō users can grow a Susanoo in stages, from a bare ribcage up to a full giant warrior with its own weapons and techniques.

Pick a clan. Hyūga, Senju, Shinobi, Uchiha and Uzumaki each change how your stats grow and which techniques come easily to you.

Summon allies. Call the toads (Gamabunta included), Katsuyu the slug, snakes (Manda included), Enma the Monkey King, the two-headed ninken, and chakra-string puppets like Hiruko, Sanshōuo, the Third Kazekage and the Hundred Puppets. Each one has its own AI and fighting style.

Meet the cast. More than fifty named ninja walk the world, each with their own look and signature jutsu:

• The Akatsuki (Itachi, Kisame, Deidara, Sasori, Hidan, Kakuzu, Konan, Tobi, Zetsu) and the Six Paths of Pain.
• The legends: Madara, Hashirama, Tobirama, Minato, Hiruzen, Jiraiya and Tsunade.
• Team 7 and the Konoha 11: Naruto, Sasuke, Sakura, Kakashi, Shikamaru, Neji, Hinata, Kiba, Shino, Chōji, Ino, Rock Lee, Might Guy and Tenten.
• Teachers and Kage: Kurenai, Asuma, Yamato, Iruka, Mei Terumi, A, Onoki, Darui and Gaara.
• Zabuza, Haku, Guren, Kimimaro, Temari, Kankuro, Kurotsuchi and White Zetsu.

Some are dangerous fights. Iruka, Sakura, Tenten and Might Guy trade with you for emeralds, and a few other ninja sell scrolls too. Villages have their own ninja, take real damage from jutsu, and repair themselves over time instead of staying craters. Compatible with BetterVillages.

Gear up. Iconic weapons and tools such as the Adamantine Nyoi, Samehada, Kabutowari, Hidan’s chained scythe and Kagutsuchi, plus chakra armour, throwable ninja tools and consumables.

Combat that feels like the show. Blocking reduces damage, opposing jutsu clash and cancel each other, and there are first-person poses, projectile trails and impact effects. A HUD tracks your chakra, active jutsu and dojutsu.

Getting started

1. Install NeoForge for Minecraft 1.21.1 (or use a launcher that does it for you, see below).
2. Install Way of the Ninja from CurseForge.
3. Start the game and join a world. On first join you will be asked to pick a clan.
4. Find or buy your first scrolls (see How you grow), then hold Left Alt to open the radial menu. Put techniques on the quick-cast keys (1 to 0), hold C to charge chakra, and use Z and V to toggle and stage up transformations.

Installing from CurseForge. The easiest way is the CurseForge app. Create a Minecraft 1.21.1 profile with NeoForge, open the mods tab, search for Way of the Ninja and press install. Launchers such as Prism and GDLauncher can also search CurseForge directly and filter by NeoForge. To install by hand, download the jar from this page, make sure it matches 1.21.1, and drop it into the mods folder of your NeoForge profile (the folder appears after you launch the game once). Don’t unzip the jar.

Servers. Put the same jar in the server’s mods folder, and have every player install it too.

How you grow

Jutsu come from scrolls. Right-click a scroll to read it. You learn the technique if you meet its requirements (Ninja level, XP and any prerequisite techniques), and the scroll is only used up when it works. You get scrolls in three ways:

• Find them in chests. The more dangerous the chest, the higher the rank of the scroll. Village chests hold basic techniques. Strongholds, jungle temples, the Nether and the End hold the rare and legendary ones.
• Buy them from ninja merchants and other named ninja, for emeralds.
• Take them from ninja you defeat. A named ninja drops a scroll for one of their own techniques.

Training makes you stronger. Hold Left Alt and open the Ninja category of the radial menu:

• Training Progress shows your Ninja XP, chakra training and Eight Gates progress.
• Spend XP on stats lets you buy Taijutsu, Ninjutsu and the other stats with Ninja XP. You earn XP by hitting strong enemies, surviving hits and casting jutsu. Hold Shift to buy in bulk. Spending XP never lowers your level.
• Concentration and Air Boxing are two small training games that pay Ninja XP, with a daily cap that resets at dawn.
• Shadow Dummy summons a sparring copy of you, with your skin, armour and attack damage, that fights only you.
• Chakra grows when you cast jutsu (one point per chakra spent) or hold C to charge.
• Eight Gates: learn it from its scroll, force the first gate in a fight, then hold each gate open to reach the next.

Controls

Every key can be rebound under Controls, in the Way of the Ninja section.

Commands

These need operator permission (level 2), except /clan info and /clan list. <players> takes selectors like @s or @a.

Clans: /clan info, /clan list, /clan join <clan>, /clan leave, /clan choose. The clans are hyuga, senju, shinobi, uchiha and uzumaki. The allowClanChoice gamerule decides whether players can pick for themselves.

Chakra: /chakra info|fill|reset <players>, /chakra add|remove <players> <amount>, /chakra set <current|max|regen> <players> <value>, /chakra lock <players> <true|false>

Ninja level: /ninjaxp info|max|reset <players>, /ninjaxp add|remove|set <players> <amount>

Dojutsu: /dojutsu give|remove|toggle <dojutsu> <players>, /dojutsu setstage <dojutsu> <players> <stage>, /dojutsu setmangekyo <players> <amaterasu|tsukuyomi|kamui|koto|generic>, /dojutsu eternal <players>, /dojutsu transfer <dojutsu> <from> <to>. Tab completion lists every dojutsu.

Tailed beasts: /biju list, then for each beast /biju <shukaku|matatabi|isobu|son_goku|kokuo|saiken|chomei|gyuki|kurama|ten_tails> host <player>, unseal, sealgedo, spawn (add force to override) or status.

Akatsuki hunts: /akatsuki hunt <player> sends the Akatsuki after a jinchūriki right now, and /akatsuki abort calls off every hunt.

Infinite Tsukuyomi: /wotn tsukuyomi status and /wotn tsukuyomi release (ends a running dream for everyone).

Testing and creative: /wotndev all <players> unlocks everything and /wotndev off <players> undoes it. Also infinitechakra <players> <true|false>, element <nature> <players> (every jutsu of one nature), reroll <players> (re-roll a birth nature), cooldowns <players>, godtree, itachi and brink.

Gamerules:

• allowClanChoice (default true)
• protectSettlements (default true): creeper craters in villages are repaired and endermen can’t pick up village blocks
• akatsukiHunts (default true): set to false to stop the weekly hunts

Quick start for testing. In a creative world, run:

/clan join uchiha
/wotndev all @s
/dojutsu give sharingan @s
/biju kurama host @s

Then hold Left Alt.
