Feast and Famine
Makes food matter: hunger and healing rules, and meals that feed you more the harder they are to make.
介绍
Feast and Famine
Food should be worth cooking. In normal Minecraft one steak fills you and a stack of bread lasts all day. Feast and Famine makes a meal feed you according to how much work went into it, gives hunger and healing clear rules, and lets a good dinner pay you back. It is built for packs with lots of food mods (Pam’s HarvestCraft, Farmer’s Delight, Cooking for Blockheads and the like), where the usual rules make cooking pointless.
Everything is configurable, and every part can be switched off.
Inspired by the old Hunger Overhaul. This is a new mod written from scratch for modern Minecraft; it does not use the original’s code.
What it does
Meals are worth what they cost to make
- The mod reads every crafting recipe in your game and works out how much work each dish is: how many base ingredients, how many different ones, how many crafting steps (flour to dough to bread), and how many utensils.
- More work means more food. Raw meat and apples are worth little, a plain loaf is worth a bit more, a stew more still, and a long multi-step feast the most.
- Foods that have no recipe (raw items, mob drops) are scaled down so one mod’s feast cannot make hunger meaningless.
- It works with food from any mod, because it uses the normal recipe system. Values update when recipes reload, with no list to maintain.
- You can override or exclude any food with a small JSON file.
Big meals take longer, and stack smaller
- Bigger meals take longer to eat. The eating animation and sounds follow along.
- Bigger meals stack to fewer items (a 3-point meal stacks to 32, an 8-point one to 12).
- Tooltips say what a food feeds you. If AppleSkin is installed, it shows the real values on the hunger bar and in tooltips too.
Well Fed
- A good meal gives you Well Fed: you heal faster for a while. A bigger meal lasts longer, eating more stacks the time up to a cap.
Hunger and healing with clear rules
- You get hungry at a steady rate, a little even while standing still, and the rate follows difficulty.
- You only heal naturally when your hunger is above a threshold (seven shanks by default). Healing no longer eats your food.
- Low hunger or low health slows you, tires your mining and weakens you, in steps. A short warning appears in a corner of the screen telling you which and why.
- Starvation can hurt as hard as you like, up to killing you, if you turn that on.
- Your hunger on respawn depends on difficulty.
Farming (optional module)
- Crops only grow in daylight; roofed fields such as greenhouses and cave farms keep growing at night if you leave that option on.
- Crops grow more slowly in the wrong biome (frozen, or dry and hot).
- Bone meal is weaker, and does nothing on Hard.
- Right-click a ripe crop to harvest it and leave it replanted.
- Grass no longer drops seeds. Hoe grass to find them instead.
- You can slow growth across the board with one multiplier. The default is normal speed.
Animals (optional module)
- Settings for breeding cooldown, how long babies take to grow up, how long chickens take to lay, and a cooldown between milkings.
- Every value starts at the normal game’s rate, so nothing changes until you change it.
Also
- An Empty Plate item in the creative tab for testing foods: it resets your hunger and saturation.
/feastandfamine pacemeasures how fast you burn hunger and tells you how long a proper meal would last, so you can tune the balance from real play.
Compatibility
- Minecraft 1.21.1, NeoForge. Needs nothing else.
- AppleSkin (optional): shows the real food values on the hunger bar and in tooltips.
- Meal values are calculated from recipes, so any mod’s food works. Farming rules apply to normal crop blocks, which most farming mods use.
- Install on both the server and the clients. A player without the mod can still join a server that has it, but will not see the new tooltips and eating times.
Configuration
All settings are in the server config, feastandfamine-server.toml (one per world, and a copy in defaultconfigs is used for new worlds). Warning text settings are in feastandfamine-client.toml. Every option has a comment explaining it. Food overrides are in config/feastandfamine/food_overrides.json.
The main settings:
meals: how much food is worth, eating time, stack sizes.hunger, health, wellFed,lowStats: the pace and rules above.farming: each farming rule has its own switch, and one master switch.animals: four settings, all at normal rates.
For modpack makers
Everything is meant to be tuned. Every feature has its own switch, defaults are chosen to be firm but fair, and the recipe-based values mean you do not need a food list. You can ship a tuned config in defaultconfigs. Seed handling uses data tags (feastandfamine:hoe_seeds, hoe_seeds_rare, grass_seeds, no_seed_drops) that a datapack can change.
