ZEN’s Better Champions

A vanilla-friendly NeoForge mod that makes monsters more dangerous and more rewarding. Some monsters now spawn as champions, with more health, special abilities and better loot.

Champion Tiers

Every monster that spawns naturally has a small chance to become a champion. The rarer the tier, the stronger the champion:

🔵 ★ 5%

🟢 ★★ 2.5%

🟡 ★★★ 1%

🔴 ★★★★ 0.5%

🟣 ★★★★★ 0.1%

• More Health: Champions get from +50% to +500% health, depending on their tier.
• Effects: Each champion gets from 1 to 5 random effects, such as Speed, Strength or Resistance.
• Abilities: From three stars, champions use real abilities: meteor showers, tornadoes, lightning, spectral swords, frost and fire novas, a legion of allies and many more.

Rewards

Champions killed by a player drop extra loot on top of their usual drops. The higher the tier, the better the rewards.

• Loot: Iron, gold, lapis, redstone, emeralds, diamonds, netherite and enchanted books.
• Experience: A third more experience per tier.

Display

• Health Bar: Look at a champion to see its health bar and its stars at the top of the screen.
• Aura: Colored particles in the color of its tier float around every champion.

Configuration

Everything can be changed in game from the config menu, in English and French.

• Spawning: The chance of each tier, the dimensions and the ways of spawning that give champions.
• Mobs: Which mobs can become champions, and which effects each mob can or cannot get.
• Balance: Health, effects, loot, experience and an optional damage bonus per tier.

Requirements

• Minecraft: 1.21.1 with NeoForge.
• ZEN’s EffectLib: Required.
• Installation: Both mods on the client and the server.
