Dragon Survival Skill Add-On: Innate Might

I always found it strange that as a dragon player in Dragon Survival, you still need to rely on crafting armor and tools. Even as a fully grown beast, you’re as fragile as glass, and despite having formidable sharp teeth and claws, they can barely do any damage or dig through tougher blocks.

This mod changes that! It adds further attack strength, defense, and in some cases breaking/block harvesting speed/strength as your dragon grows. Aside from enchantments, you will no longer need to rely on crafting armor or weapons. Your dragon’s body, claws and teeth are now reliable tools for your survival. This includes all dragon species, including any add-ons.

How it works

Your dragon receives a new passive ability called Innate Might. As your dragon grows, you slowly gain more attack damage and armor as though you were obtaining better and better gear. By the start of Young Stage, your dragon has the strength equivalent of iron gear. By Adult stage, diamond. Ancient stage, netherite, and so on. You can check how much extra damage you gain by checking the ability itself in the Abilities tab. Innate Might will be listed with the other passives.

Without wearing any armor or wielding any weapons, your adult dragon will be inherently equipped to fight and defend itself. If you want the power of enchantments like feather falling, thorns, aqua affinity, looting, etc., you will need to obtain enchanted gear as normal.

Block-Harvesting

Normally, an Adult Cave Dragon inherently has the mining strength of a mere stone pickaxe. With Innate Might, a Young dragon will mine as though it wields an iron pickaxe, no longer needing to craft an actual pickaxe to harvest things like redstone or diamond ore. Adult dragons can mine obsidian and ancient debris, and Ancient dragons can mine any blocks that require a netherite pickaxe.

Forest dragons have innate wood-harvesting (axe) strength that evolves in the same way as listed above. Sea dragons have evolving dirt-digging strength.

Note: Since most add-on species do not have the “Sea Claws”/”Cave Claws”/”Forest Claws” ability that the original 3 species do, they will not receive the added block-harvesting benefit that Innate Might gives. I may change this in the future if requested.

Installation

The zip file installed includes the data pack itself and the resource pack, which adds the custom icon for the Innate Might skill. Without the resource pack, the icon will likely show as a broken texture, but the ability itself will still work. Make sure to put “innate-dragon-might-resources” into your resource packs for the icon image to work, and put “innate-dragon-might” in your data packs folder.

Since this was made from a data pack into a mod, simply install the mod into your mods folder.

Potential Issues

Desert Claw (Add-On species) seems to do ridiculously high damage with Innate Might. Currently testing. If you don’t want to be stupidly OP as Desert Claw, deactivate this mod while playing with it. I may tweak this myself if requested.
