Mindworks: Dementia

Your house is still your house. The path home is still the path home. Mostly.

Mindworks: Dementia is an artistic interpretation of what it can feel like when memory starts to fail. It doesn’t use jumpscares. The horror is quiet: a world that slowly stops making sense, while it still feels normal to the person inside it.

What happens

• A mind that drifts. The world warps, fades to grey and loses its sound as things get worse. Rest, routine, your own bed and the people around you bring it back.
• Things that are not there. Shadows at the edge of sight, figures that act out ordinary life, blocks that are and aren’t there, footsteps behind you, a clock that ticks wrong.
• Strangers. Your friends’ names, faces and even voices can become strangers’ (Simple Voice Chat supported). They are still there. You just don’t know them.
• Somewhere else when you sleep. Some nights you don’t wake where you lay down. You wake in a place built from your own house, again and again.
• Friends can come in after you. In multiplayer, friends can follow you into your mind. What they find there, and what it takes to bring you home, is for you to find out.
• Songs you remember. A small music box of songs that stay true when everything else bends.

Mindworks is not a diagnosis tool, a medical simulation or a joke about illness. The illness is the enemy here, never the person. It was made with care for everyone who lives with these conditions and for those who care for them.

Nothing happens unless you choose it. Every player opts in on their own and can stop at any time from the Mindworks button in the pause menu. You can also play as a supporter and see the world as it is.

• Minecraft 1.21.1, Fabric (with Fabric API) or NeoForge
• Mindworks Core (required library)
• Optional: Simple Voice Chat, for the voice effects
• Server and client both need the mod. Best played with friends, works alone.
