Livestock expands animal farming in Minecraft with feeding, breeding, nesting and everyday care. Animals need food and water, mothers raise their young, and chickens settle into nests and shelters to lay and hatch their eggs.

The mod builds on vanilla animals, with blocks and routines designed to fit naturally into a Minecraft farm. Whether you keep a few chickens or a whole pasture of animals, there is more to raising them than feeding a pair and waiting for a baby.

Caring for your animals

Keep troughs stocked with suitable food and give your animals access to drinking water.

 Hungry animals look for food, grazing animals use the pasture when they need it, and thirsty animals can drink from troughs or natural water sources.

Small and regular troughs fit different farm layouts, while connected troughs share their supplies. Water troughs also accept water from compatible fluid pipes, including Create, so larger farms can have an automatic water supply.

Breeding and raising a herd

Livestock adds male and female animals, fertility and pregnancy. Compatible animals can breed automatically when their care and breeding requirements are met, with configurable population limits to help keep growing herds manageable.

Young animals remember and follow their actual mother. Good care contributes to animal quality and products such as milk, meat, eggs and wool. Horses can also pass on health, speed and jump traits to their offspring.

Alongside the usual farm animals, Livestock supports rabbits, goats, llamas, wolves, cats, foxes, ocelots, pandas, camels and parrots. Their familiar taming, trust and riding mechanics remain available.

A place to nest

Chickens use nests, houses and coops to lay eggs, rest and shelter from 

rain. Hens settle over fertilized eggs to help them hatch sooner, leaving to eat or drink before returning to their nest.

Nests and shelters have inventories for collecting eggs and other stored items, with hopper support for automatic collection. Fertilized eggs retain their incubation progress when moved and continue developing while carried.

Parrots have their own smaller nests and eggs, and can use the same roosts as chickens.

The farm guide

With Patchouli installed, the in-game farm guide explains animal care, breeding, shelters and tending the land. It includes illustrations and recipes, with English and Brazilian Portuguese translations.

Optional integrations

• Jade displays animal needs, quality, breeding information and farm block contents.
• Quality Food adds food quality tiers to supported animal products.
• Incubation nests work with Livestock’s egg inventories, brooding and hatching.
• Create and compatible fluid pipes can supply water directly to troughs.
• Livestock: Untitled Duck, available separately, brings Livestock’s care and nesting systems to ducks and geese.

Your farm, your settings

Most systems can be adjusted or disabled, including hunger, thirst, gender, breeding, quality and individual animal support. Trough search distances, water consumption and optional integrations are configurable too.

Starvation damage is disabled by default.

Livestock also includes soil fertility, land salting and optional natural grass growth for players who want more ways to manage their pastures.

The mod is still in development. Suggestions for the main mod and future addons are welcome, along with feedback and bug reports.
