Overview

Black Sun is a cinematic visual effects and dark-fantasy magic mod for Minecraft Fabric & Forge 1.20.1. It introduces the Black Sun Staff, allowing players to invoke a catastrophic celestial singularity that obliterates the terrain and hostile entities in a choreographed anime-style cinematic sequence.

Features

• Black Sun Staff: A sacred handheld catalyst item used to aim and trigger the cataclysmic ritual.
• Tactical Aiming Hologram: Holding the staff projects rotating concentric magic circles and a vertical guidance beacon directly onto your target destination.
• Apocalyptic Sky Eclipse: The sky smoothly transitions into an ominous eclipse with an atmospheric celestial vortex spanning the horizon.
• Dual Convergence VFX Styles: Choose between “Shockwave Rings” (fully shader-compatible) and “Vertical Rails” in the configuration menu.
• Bedrock-Drilling Detonation: A cataclysmic hyper-beam pierces down from the stratosphere, vaporizing all blocks down to bedrock in a clean crater shaft.
• Custom Dedicated SFX: Includes a dedicated audio track synchronized with every stage of the cast, with directional 3D audio originating directly from the target location.
• Dynamic Thunderstorm Ducking: Automatically lowers weather/storm rumble during the cast to let the custom soundtrack shine, then smoothly restores normal volume.
• Server Administration Commands: Operators can execute /blacksun cancel or /blacksun stop to instantly cancel any active cataclysms and restore the world state.
• In-Game Configuration: Seamlessly configure all parameters in-game via Cloth Config (ModMenu on Fabric, Config Screen on Forge), complete with explanatory tooltips for every option.

Crafting Recipe

How to Use

1. Obtain the Black Sun Staff from the “Black Sun” Creative tab, craft it in survival, or use the command: /give @p blacksun:staff
2. Hold the staff in your main hand to preview the tactical targeting circle on the ground.
3. Hold Shift while hovering over the staff to view detailed statistics.
4. Right-Click to initiate the cataclysm at your aimed location.
5. Step back and watch the cinematic sequence unfold.

Server Administration Commands

Requires Operator level 2 permission:

• /blacksun cancel: Instantly aborts all active Black Sun events across dimensions and restores natural time of day.
• /blacksun stop: Alias for /blacksun cancel.

In-Game Configuration (Cloth Config)

All settings are configurable in-game via Cloth Config or directly in .minecraft/config/blacksun.json:

• staffCooldown: Cooldown ticks after cast (default: 420).
• castMaxRange: Maximum raycast distance in blocks (default: 128.0).
• fallbackCastDistance: Aim distance when targeting open sky (default: 40.0).
• castSoundVolume: Volume factor for the cast audio (default: 32.0).
• enableCataclysmDamage: Toggle damage to entities (default: true).
• cataclysmDamageRadius: Blast damage radius in blocks (default: 150.0).
• cataclysmDamageAmount: Blast damage amount (default: 1000000.0).
• beamDamageRadius: Continuous laser beam damage radius (default: 32.0).
• beamDamageAmount: Continuous beam damage per tick (default: 100000.0).
• casterImmunity: Caster and teammates take zero damage (default: true).
• igniteTargets: Catch entities on fire (default: true).
• igniteDurationSeconds: Duration of fire in seconds (default: 3).
• knockbackMultiplier: Knockback multiplier for survivors (default: 1.0).
• killEnderDragonDirectly: Instant destruction of Ender Dragon body parts (default: true).
• enableBlockDestruction: Toggle borehole crater block excavation (default: true).
• craterMaxRadius: Maximum crater radius at surface level (default: 19).
• craterBedrockBuffer: Blocks preserved above lowest bedrock layer (default: 3).
• scatterRimFire: Scatter decorative fire on crater edge (default: true).
• visualRadius: Distance clients receive sky and VFX updates (default: 150).
• enableTimeShift: Smooth eclipse day/night time acceleration (default: true).
• enableAtmosphericLightning: Cosmetic lightning strikes during ritual (default: true).
• enableWeatherDucking: Lower weather volume during cast (default: true).
• duckedWeatherVolume: Volume factor during ducking (default: 0.05).
• convergenceVfxStyle: Switch between SHOCKWAVE_RINGS (shader-friendly) and VERTICAL_RAILS (vertical energy walls, Shader Incompatible).
