Auroras Unofficial

An unofficial port of Auroras by Verph, under the original BSD 2-Clause licence. It brings the mod to Fabric, to Forge 1.21.1 and to Minecraft 26.2, next to rebuilt Forge 1.20.1 and NeoForge 1.21.1 files. Auroras draws northern and southern lights in the night sky, and needs no shader pack. These builds are not affiliated with Verph: do not report their problems to the original author.

The lights

• Curtains of light that wave, shift and change colour, from green and yellow to red, blue and violet.
• They do not show every night: there can be many nights in a row with or without them. auroraVisibilityOctaves sets how variable that is, and -1 shows them every night.

Where they appear

• Near the poles. In the Overworld the equator is at Z 10000 and each pole lies 20000 blocks from it, so auroras appear around Z -10000 and Z 30000, plus or minus a random offset.
• The poles repeat every 40000 blocks.
• No biome is required by default. A list of allowed biomes can be added.

Configuration

• One JSON file per dimension in config/auroras/ (Overworld, End and Aether by default) sets position, wave frequency and amplitude, colours and more. These files are the same on every build.
• The general settings (detail, render distance, how often auroras show) are in config/auroras-startup.toml on NeoForge, config/auroras-common.toml on Forge and config/auroras.json on Fabric.

Compatibility

• TerraFirmaCraft and The Aether are supported on Forge 1.20.1 and NeoForge 1.21.1 only.
• An active Iris or Oculus shader pack is detected on Forge 1.20.1, NeoForge 1.21.1 and Fabric 1.21.1. On 26.2 the aurora may draw wrongly or not at all under a pack.

Requirements

Minecraft 1.20.1 (Forge, Java 17), 1.21.1 (Forge, NeoForge or Fabric, Java 21) or 26.2 (NeoForge or Fabric, Java 25). Fabric needs Fabric API. Client only: it works on any server.

This mod has been abandoned. It works fine, but it will not receive updates.
