Mortal Coil is a sprawling kitchen-sink modpack for Minecraft 1.21.1 (NeoForge) built around the Create mod ecosystem, weaving together mechanical automation, arcane magic, brutal combat, and deep  exploration into a cohesive progression experience.

⚙️  Create — The Heart of the Pack

Create and its many addon mods form the backbone of automation and engineering. Build massive factory lines with conveyor belts, mixers, and mechanical arms. Take to the skies with Create: Aeronautics, constructing airships that physically fly through the world. Wage war with Create: Big  Cannons, engineering artillery that fires destructible projectiles. Ride and manage railway networks with Create: Railways Navigator, building fully functional train lines complete with schedules and stations. Brew custom drinks with Create: Winery and Brewin’ and Chewin’, and automate your kitchen with Create: Central Kitchen paired with Farmer’s Delight and its expansive food ecosystem.

⚔️  Revamped Combat and Hostile World

The world fights back harder here. Born in Chaos overhauls zombie and skeleton variants with new deadly forms that appear at night and in caves. Alex’s Mobs adds dozens of new creatures — from predatory animals in the overworld to unsettling horrors in the End and Nether. Illagers are no longer a minor threat — Illager Invasion, Raids Enhanced, and Takes a Pillage give them new units, behaviors, and siege tactics.

✨ Magic and Spellcasting
                         
A full magic system runs parallel to the tech progression. Iron’s Spellbooks provides a deep spell-casting framework with dozens of spells across schools of magic, scrolls, and magical staves. Eidolon Repraised adds occult rituals, soul-binding, and dark alchemy. Create: Wizardry bridges the gap between automation and magic, allowing Create machinery to interact  with magical systems.

🌍 A World Worth Exploring

The terrain itself has been completely overhauled by Terralith, replacing vanilla biomes with over 85 new and reworked environments — volcanic landscapes, ancient forests, deep canyons, and more. Every structure type has been reimagined: YUNG’s Better series redesigns dungeons, desert temples, jungle temples, ocean monuments, nether fortresses, and witch huts from the ground up with hand-crafted layouts. Dungeons and Taverns scatters inns and ruins across the landscape. Luke’s Grand Capitals places sprawling, fully-populated cities in the world. Tidal Towns brings life to coastlines. Caravans sends travelling merchants through the wilderness. The End itself is locked behind End Remastered, requiring you to hunt down unique eyes from across the world before you can open the portal.

🏰 Build a Colony

MineColonies lets you found and manage a living settlement — recruit citizens, assign them roles (miners, farmers, guards, builders), construct a town hall, and watch your colony grow into a fortified city. Town Talk adds social depth to your colony’s citizens.

Xaero’s Minimap and World Map keep you oriented.Sophisticated Backpacks gives you deep inventory management. Distant Horizons renders the world far  beyond normal render distance for breathtaking vistas. Exposure lets you craft an in-game camera and take photographs. Ambient Sounds and Ambient Environment fill every biome with atmospheric audio.
