Elytra Trails

Colorful trails for elytra flight, designed to match the vanilla visual style.

Version note: Vanilla APIs and particle implementations differ between Minecraft versions, so the exact trail appearance may vary slightly. Use the build that matches your Minecraft version.

Choose the jar for your loader and exact Minecraft version. Do not mix Fabric and NeoForge builds.

Features

• 16 color trail enchantments, one for each vanilla dye color
• Big Trail enchantment with a brighter, larger particle effect
• Multi Trail enchantment up to level 5 by default, with higher levels obtainable through commands
• Smooth quadratic Bezier interpolation for clean trails during fast turns

Crafting

Combine the enchanted book with an elytra in an anvil. Color trail enchantments are mutually exclusive. Big Trail and Multi Trail can be combined with a color trail.

Multi Trail books can be merged in an anvil: I + I -> II, II + II -> III, and so on.

Configuration

After the first launch, the mod creates config/elytra-trails.json on the client:

The config file supports hot reload. While flying with a valid trail enchantment, changes are picked up on the next particle spawn, usually within about one second. No game restart is required.

Installation

Fabric

1. Install Minecraft 1.21 – 1.21.11 with Fabric Loader.
2. Install the matching Fabric API version.
3. Place the matching Elytra Trails jar in the mods folder.

NeoForge

1. Install Minecraft 1.21 – 1.21.11 with the matching NeoForge version.
2. Place the matching Elytra Trails jar in the mods folder.

Java 21 or newer is required.

Notes

• This mod uses client-side particle rendering. Server-side gameplay does not create the visual trail.
• Configuration is file-based; gamerule control is not included.
• Different Minecraft versions may produce slightly different visual results.
